maadaam (Madam)

Today’s Nazm, a beautiful nazm entitled “maadaam” (or english word Madam pronounced in Hindi/Urdu, phonetically to fit the meter of the nazm)

aap bewajah pareshaan sii kyoN haiN maadaam
log kahte haiN to phir Theek hi kahte hoNge
mere ahbaab ne tahzeeb na seekhi hogi
mere maahaul meiN insaan na rahte hoNge

noor-e-sarmaayaa se hai roo-e-tamaddun ki jilaa
ham jahaaN haiN vahaaN tahzeeb nahiiN pal sakti
muflisii his_se-lataafat ko miTaa deti hai
bhook aadaab ke saaNche meiN nahiiN Dhal sakti

log kahte haiN to logoN pe ta’azzub kaisaa
sach to kahte haiN ki naadaaroN kii izzat kaisi
log kahte haiN — magar aap abhi tak chup haiN
aap bhi kahiye GhariboN meiN sharaafat kaisi

nek maadaam! bahut jald vo daur aayega
jab hameiN zeest ke advaar parakhne hoNge
apni zillat ki qasam, aapki azmat ki qasam
hamko ta’azeem ke mayyaar parakhne hoNge

hamne har daur meiN tazleel sahii hai lekin
hamne har daur ke chehre ko ziyaa baKhshii hai
hamne har daur meiN mehnat ke sitam jhele haiN
hamne har daur ke haathoN ko hina baKhshii hai

lekin in talKh mubaahis se bhalaa kyaa haasil
log kahte haiN to phir Theek hi kahte hoNge
mere ehbaab ne tahzeeb na seekhii hogi
maiN jahaaN rahtaa houN insaan na rahte hoNge

ab na in unche makaanoN meiN qadam rakhouNga
maiN ne ik baar ye pahle bhi qasam khaayii thii
apnii naadaar muhabbat ki shikastoN ke tufail
zindagii pahle bhi sharmaayii thi, jhunjhlaayii thii

aur ye ahd kiya tha k ba-iiN-haal-e-tabaah
ab kabhii pyaar bhare geet nahiiN gaaouNgaa
kisii chilman ne pukaaraa bhi to baRh jaaouNgaa
koi darwaazaa khulaa bhi to palaT jaaouNgaa

phir tire kaaNpte hoNThoN ki fusuNkaar haNsii
jaal bun_ne lagii, bunti rahi, buntii hi rahii
maiN khiNchaa tujhse, magar tu meri raahoN ke liye
phool chunti rahi, chunti rahi, chuntii hi rahii

barf barsaayii mire zehn-o-tasavvur ne magar
dil meiN ik sho’la-e-benaam saa lahraa hi gayaa
teri chupchaap nigaahoN ko sulagte paakar
merii bezaar tab’iyat ko bhi pyaar hi aa gayaa

apni badli hui nzaroN ke taqaaze na chhupaa
maiN is andaaz ka mafhoom samajh saktaa houN
tere zarkaar dareechoN ki bulandi ki qasam
apne aqdaam ka maqsoom samajh saktaa houN

ab na in unche makaanoN meiN qadam rakhouNga
main ne ik baar ye pahle bhi qasam khaayii thi
isi sarmaaya-o-iflaas ke doraahe par
zindagii pahle bhi sharmaayii thi, jhunjhlaayii thi

tere hoNThoN pe tabassum ki vo halki si lakeer
mere taKh’eel meiN rah rah ke jhalak uThti hai
yuuN achaanak tire aariz ka Khayaal aataa hai
jaise zulmat meiN koi shama’ bhaRak uThti hai

tere pairaahan-e-rangeeN ki junuuNKhez mahak
Khwaab ban ban ke mire zehan meiN lahraati hai
raat ki sard Khamoshi meiN har ik jhoNke se
tere anfaas, tire jism ki aaNch aatii hai

maiN sulagate hue raazoN ko ayaaN to kar douN
lekin in raazoN kii tash_heer se jee Dartaa hai
raat ke Khwaab ujaale meiN bayaaN to kar douN
in haseeN KhwaaboN ki taa’beer se jee Dartaa hai

tere saaNsoN ki thakan, teri nigaahoN ka sukuut
dar-haqeeqat koi rangeen sharaarat hi na ho
maiN jise pyaar ka andaaz samajh baiThaa houN
vo tabassum vo takallum teri aadat hi na ho

sochtaa houN ki tujhe milke maiN jis soch meiN houN
pahle us soch ka maqsoom samajh louN to kahouN
maiN tire shahr meiN anjaan houN pardesi houN
tere altaaf ka mafhoom samjah louN to kahouN

kahiiN aisa na ho ki paaNv mire thraa jaayeiN
aur tiri marmari baahoN ka sahaaraa na mile
ashk bahte raheiN Khaamosh siyah raatoN meiN
aur tire reshmi aaNchal ka kinaaraa na mile
