The 1st time i heard the song 25 yrs back and i was amazed to find a man write with such empathy on the condition of woman in society. Today 25 years down the line,it still makes the skin crawl, esp the “ismat ke saude” the 3rd 4th & penultimate stanzas, oh the whole work, again!

Rabbi Shergill, a very talented singer (Bulla Ki Jaana etc) , has a song called ‘Bilqis.. Jinhe Naaz Hai’ which is clearly inspired by Sahir’s original in its theme but the lyric and composition is contemporary…
